Sparta may offer the best multi-species freshwater fishing in the country. Sparta's good fishing starts with the great variety of water, from the small Perch Lake with the Dam right below, from scenic trout streams, and of course pan fishing in the La Crosse River. Lake Neshonoc is also just a short drive away which offers some great opportunities all year round! Don't forget that the mighty Mississippi is only 20 minutes away! Roaming these waters are large and smallmouth bass, trout, panfish, there are plenty of opportunities in the area.
Hunting is a big fall tradition in Wisconsin. Seasons for small game, waterfowl, turkey and pheasant open in September and October. November is deer season. The Sparta Area boasts some pretty amazing public lands to spend some time on and hunt game of the seasons.
